Monkleigh House

Georgian country house with 2 acres of mature gardens on the edge of Monkleigh village. Historic port town of Bideford is just 6 km away and nearby is the fishing village of Appledore. Sandy beaches of Westward Ho! and Instow are within easy reach. The Cavalier town of Torrington is 5km away and is the home of Dartington Crystal and the RHS Gardens at Rosemoor.
The house was built in 1808 by Lord Saltrens and retains a wealth of period features such as the 'dog-leg' staircase, original fireplaces, shutters and a gilded plaster pelmet in he dining room. The gardens, which guests are welcome to use, contain many unusual trees and shrubs.
Guests have private use of the Regency-style dining room and an elegant sitting room, but are welcome to join the family in the kitchen and family lounge. Two double bedrooms with country views. Each has a television, hairdryer, clock, radio and bathrobes. The larger room can accommodate a cot or a folding bed suitable for a child. One of the luxury bathrooms features an original cast iron bath and a separate power-shower. The other has a spa bath.
Both bedrooms can be booked as singles.
A full English breakfast using local produce is served every morning. Children are very welcome, a cot and a high chair are available. There is a children's play area in the garden and baby-sitting can be arranged in the evening. Devon cream teas are served in the gardens on request.
